CD Toolkit. In an FDA Notice issued December 3, 2009, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) cited ongoing concerns regarding the regulatory status of the Steris System 1 (SS1) and recommended that healthcare facilities in the U.S. discontinue its use. FDA currently recommends that healthcare organizations complete their transition away from the System 1 by August 2011.
